Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Purple in 2017, alt-rock Swedish duo Pink Milk are to release their new single Heart of Fire on the 25th January 2019. The track promises the emotional depth and almost fluid, loose drawl that is the signature sound of the couple, who can be best compared to the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins.
The reception of their debut album was one of success, with the album instantly ending up on the Swedish critics’ chart Kritiker.se, where it is now consolidated as the album of the month. The reaction to the album was also hugely welcomed in the UK, with The Indiependent writing that it was ‘one of the most consistently great post-punk albums of the year’, noting the effectiveness of the ‘drum echo […] spindly guitar lines and melodramatic vocals.’
In Heart of Fire the duo redefine the shoegaze and post-rock genre with their slow burning, melancholic sound and bass-y doomsday depth, creating a soundscape that has an effect of true absorbance that is not just heard, but felt. The track is a ballad written by drummer and vocalist Maria for her new born daughter and so whilst also maintaining the grand, cinematic sound that the band are best known for, the track also exhibits a tenderness and emotional connection that the title suggests.
