January 14, 2021 monkjackblog 0

Glasgow based electro-rock duo der Mist is set to smash on to the scene with their brand new single ‘It’s Alright’, releasing on January 15. The unique blend of pop, indie, rock and synth sounds gives this band a super unique edge that is hard to find in today’s climate. The new single brings something fresh and acts as a precursor to the release of their debut self-titled album next month which is something you do not want to miss.

Composed of Craig McKissick and Ali Whitty, both based in Glasgow, the duo are armed with a plethora of instruments and skills, making them sound as though there’s more in the band than just two. Having previously playing in Crash My Model Car (signed to V2 Records) and Augusta Fireball, Ali was introduced to Craig through a local charity he set up to help young musicians. Their introduction clearly worked, as the two decided to miss out on being in a traditional full band to become something a bit different.

Covid-19 lockdowns may have separated the duo,..

87 and The Toys drop new EP ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ in classic DIY indie pop fashion

December 13, 2020 monkjackblog 0

The seven tracks that make up ‘Japanesy If You Pleasey’ are a trigger which come together to portray the trio’s indie expertise and passion.

Indie artists such as Violent Femmes, B-52s, Daniel Johnson and Neutral Milk Hotel are clear inspiration for the twists and turns of their style. But they also hold their own in retaining a quirky and fresh sound.

The songs ask questions from everything regarding government, corona virus and even all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants and BoJack Horseman. Combined American and Japanese cultures are brought together in this DIY mash.

Listen to the tracks below:

The songs give a true personal feel, somehow also managing to epitomise coolness. For instance, ‘BoJack’, written after the band binge-watched the series throws out chirpy lyrics alongside gooey rhythms.

Perhaps the cherry on top for fans of this band is their no-filter approach. They take a calm viewpoint on production techniques and commit to artist integrity throughout.

Flamenco giants Malcura have released their new album ‘Malcura II’ for the masses, and it’s a rhythmic sensation.

“Melbourne Flamenco kings Malcura have earned themselves a reputation on the local scene for their ability to take a traditional genre and decorate it with flair and exuberance.” – Beat Magazine

November 29, 2020 monkjackblog 0

One good thing out of lockdown is that musicians all across the globe have turned their creative juices into something positive. Four Crooks did exactly that too. Gathering their thoughts and talents together in a remote farmhouse to write and produce their new EP ‘Black Magic‘, the 3 track EP is a refreshing release that captures a youthful band destined for stardom.

Situated somewhere in between the attitude of The Black Keys and early Arctic Monkeys, the record takes centre stage and showcases a band that use their music as a sort of escapism.

‘Black Magic‘ is led by the first track of the same name, and describes feelings of addiction. A warning and a celebration of everything that can take hold of all your senses, the first single is an elevating tune that captures Four Crook’s youth.

‘Feel Alright‘ talks about walking out of a difficult relationship with your head held high, while EP-closer ‘Paranoia‘ is a hard-hitting number that describes how it feels to be trapped with an..
