FFO: Depeche Mode; Editors; The Cure

Having honed their song-writing skills and cultivated their electronic-rock hybrid over the last ten years, Centre Excuse are now here with their debut album ‘Favourite Soul’ which is giving us Depeche Mode and The Cure vibes.

Whilst we await the album launch (set for July), Centre Excuse, composed of Teddy Lewis and Alex Rush, have released the music video for their new single ‘Joy Joy Joy’, a track which delivers exactly what it says on the tin, released with their own label, New Motion Records.

Originally from the smallest county in England, Rutland, and having known each other since they were 8, Alex and Teddy recreate the sound of 80’s synth bands with their music, bringing high energy levels to their live shows alongside incredible videos created on a shoe-string budget. By 2017 they were releasing one single per month and are now ready to release their first album – 14 tracks which include a decade’s worth of emotions. Addressing issues such as Teddy’s anxiety and frustration when he relocated to London as well as the love, passion and pain the duo have felt over the past ten years compressed into less than an hours worth of sonic expression.

If you love Depeche Mode, The Cure and Editors then you’ll be sure to like what Centre Excuse have in store for us this year with this new album. As well as the three tracks recorded with Ian Curnow, 11 of the 14 tracks from ‘Favourite Soul’ are independently produced and recorded in their own, modest, self-built home studio and feature their beloved Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus-bequeathed bass guitar and a 2002 Fender Jag-Stang (famously the creation of Kurt Cobain).

So, give ‘Joy Joy Joy’ a watch and listen now, follow Teddy and Alex on social media and keep an eye out for the official release of ‘Favourite Soul’ next month.
