In an effort to make listeners more comfortable talking about their feelings, Singer-songwriter Paul Tully has released a single honing in on a condition that affect millions.
Well known in Ireland, Paul is one of Irish music’s best kept secrets. However, with his new single ‘Anxiety’, he’s hoping to introduce himself to a much larger audience.
While the new song is partly about his own experiences with mental health, Paul wants to reach out to others, making sure they know they’re not on their own.
‘I’m hoping the song could bring a sense of comfort to those suffering from anxiety and let them know they aren’t alone...
…When I wrote the song in June of this year, we were in the middle of lockdown and there was a real uncertainty regarding our health and well-being of not only ourselves but those closest to us.‘
‘The song basically describes my experience with anxiety and I hope it can help anyone listening and know that they aren’t alone’.
Previous releases have also garnered much success. In 2013, Paul released his debut LP ‘Lyric for the Lost’.
The popularity of it led to him performing with the likes of Foy Vance, Cara Dillon and Grammy award winner Jim Lauderdale.
From the sounds of it, Paul should be receiving the same prestigious accolades after ‘Anxiety’ has been heard by the masses.
Initially, the tune gives off a folk-rock vibe with the guitar intro, introducing a toe-tapping rhythm.
As it progresses, the beat remains, aptly coupled with Paul’s amazing voice. By the time we reach the chorus, you’ll think it’s a classic.
A special mention to the chorus while we’re here actually – it sounds like something a world famous singer or band would have come up with. A genuinely great melody, combined with some super lyrics.
The whole tune is the perfect example of how to talk about mental health without making things awkward.
It’s uplifting and joyful beat makes the track seem almost fun, a juxtaposition from the often depressing ambience associated with mental health.
Paul speaks openly and honestly about the struggles that people face day in day out, making the track relatable as well as enjoyable.
He’s successfully tackled a very difficult topic in a very positive way, something that is extremely hard to do well.
Meaning aside, the track is brilliantly put together with the guitar and voice complementing one another from start to finish.
Paul Tully’s latest track is something to be proud of. Not only is it showcasing a brilliant musician, but it goes some way in helping millions of us feel more at ease about our own problems. If you can’t tell, I quite like this one.
Even better is the fact that there is no waiting for this one to drop, do yourself a favour and go give it a listen now on SoundCloud
