London based Soul artist Angie A has paid tribute to the legendary Dame Vera Lynn, putting an unexpected twist on her timelessly famous ‘We’ll Meet Again’.
Angie’s aim is to use her reggae, dub-trap version of the much loved track to raise money for two charities close to her heart and to encourage listeners to take a step back and relax, especially after the year we’ve had.
Her chosen charitable causes are an initiative working to get technology to local schools and their pupils, and a charity investing in installing large screen online entertainment into care homes.
As well as being a vocalist, Angie is a teacher and runs a local community vocal group called ‘Angie’s Keep Calm and Sing group’. Prior to the UK going into lockdown, Angie had chosen ‘We’ll Meet Again’ as a song choice for her group but, when unable to continue the project, she began working on it remotely, including members of the group as much as possible.
Speaking on her chosen charities, Angie explained:
We’re already aware that ‘many pupils don’t have the necessary hardware to access their remote learning’ as pointed out by Streatham MP Bell Ribeiro Addy and I would like to help. Also, as someone who has entertained in many care homes before the pandemic, I would like to help raise funds so more care homes can adapt their entertainment to some kind of one room cinematic large screen zoom type entertainment. Please support where ever you can, this really is about community, thank-you. ”
You may recognise Angie from her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent where she received compliments on her vocal talents from Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan, and gained some media coverage in the Essex area over her previous release, ‘Essex Girl’, which showed support for the #IAmAnEssexGirl campaign.
She’s also sung backing vocals for established artists such as Olive who got to number 1 in the UK National Charts with the song ‘You’re Not Alone.’
You’ll be able to stream the track officially from December 20th, show your support by following Angie A on social media via the links below!
