TikTok’s ability to turn songs into viral hits and those songs’ performers into major label artists, is being proven time and time again.

A couple of prominent recent examples are the likes of 24KGoldn, whose viral TikTok hit Valentino scored him a record deal with RECORDS/Columbia, and Fousheé, whose vocals were first heard on the platform on the track Deep End, and who has recently signed with RCA.

However, the exact number of artists signing deals with major labels after finding fame on TikTok has been difficult to quantify, until today.

According to TikTok, in just the past year alone, over 70 artists that have broken on the platform have signed major label deals.

Some of those artists include Claire Rosinkranz, Dixie D’Amelio, Powfu, Priscilla Block and Tai Verdes.

TikTok revealed that number in its first ever US Music report, in which the platform also reported that over 176 different songs surpassed 1 billion video views as TikTok sounds this year.

Elsewhere, earlier this month, the platform revealed “The Playlist” as part of the Year On TikTok: Top 100 retrospective, highlighting the most significant songs on TikTok in 2020.

Together, those songs racked up over 50 billion video views on over 125 million creations, according to today’s report, and five of them reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nearly 90 songs that trended on the platform in 2020 climbed onto the Top 100 charts in the US, with 15 of those reaching No.1 on a Billboard chart.

TikTok has certainly shaken the music industry, and paved out a new path to success for emerging artists.
