New York born and raised Greer Baxter is one to watch, already claiming 2021 as her year with new single Sleeping on the Couch. Written and produced by Baxter herself, the new single tells us the story of arguing with the one you love, and as the title suggests, sleeping on the couch as a result. It’s about not letting the fight get between you, and making amends after what is usually a petty spat.
“I wrote this song about suddenly being at odds with the person you love and trying to make sense of it. We’ve all had a night sleeping on the couch and we wake up in the morning thinking: why would we let a fight keep us apart for the night? It’s about wanting to resolve it before falling asleep and wondering if the other person feels the same.”
The single follows Greer’s 2019 EP Bleed, and is quite a brilliant sequel for old fans to listen to, whilst also an impressive introduction to her talents for new ones. An avid musician from a young age, Greer has developed her skills as a pianist and in singing and songwriting, allowing herself to write songs about heartbreak and love since before she even truly understood it. This inspired her to major in Poetry in college, which resulted in meeting Michelle Obama at the White House during Poetry Month.
“My music therefore tries to connect poetry and melody and that is always my guiding force as I write my songs. I believe words and music can transport you in ways nothing else can. That inspires me and hopefully will inspire others.” – Greer Baxter
