The COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 may have been some of the most challenging times for all of us. But the good news is, whilst we were fighting over toilet roll and going for our one walk a day, some musicians were spending self-isolation creating awesome versions of songs. So, here are a few of the best covers to come out of lockdown 2020. Enjoy 
Amber Mark – Heart Shaped box (Nirvana cover)
Almost unrecognisable from the original, the hypnotic vocals and a slinky bass line have changed this song into a different genre. As part of her new series “COVERED-19”, Amber Mark has made a collection of covers and demos written and produced by herself whilst in isolation. A new track is added every two weeks, we can’t wait to see what’s to come!
Bella Kaye – Happy Together (The Turtles cover)
A beautiful and thoughtful interpretation of the 1967 US hit, Bella Kaye has completely transformed this song. Speaking about her song choice, Bella says- “When I first heard this song, I thought it would sound cool with a sadder twist so I decided to create a musical arrangement that was dark and sombre, brining out emotions of longing and desire”. Well, we think she succeeded!
Teddy Swims – You’re Still the One (Shania Twain cover)
Dedicated to his mum, Teddy has created this relaxed summer evening cover which is perfect for any pop-country playlist. It has even been approved by Shania Twain herself with a comment on Teddy’s Insta! Surely that’s when you know you’ve made it.
Mo Kenney – You Belong to Me (Patsy Cline cover)
A charming and simple interpretation of the famous Patsy Cline song, from singer-songwriter and folk artist Mo Kenney. A track that has been covered many times over the years, the dreamy guitar feature really magnifies the heartfelt nature of this acoustic cover. Beautifully done!
Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day – I Think We’re Alone Now
It’s hard to believe that this cover was produced from the bedroom of Greenday’s’ Billie Joe Armstrong. Sounding almost as if the song was the band’s original, this cover is part of their lockdown cover series #NoFunMondays. As Billy reflects on life whilst in quarantine, he explains – “I figure if we have to spend this time in isolation at least we can be alone together”. How lovely.
So I think that just goes to show how having some extra time on your hands can result in some wonderful musical creations (although, of course, it’s fine to spend a whole day in bed eating chocolate too 
)
