As a musician, experiencing life events that threaten the future of your career can leave you feeling like you’ve lost everything. Whether it’s a terrible accident or unexpected diagnosis, those words will be terrifying to hear. But this doesn’t always mean you’ll have to give up on your dreams for good.
For this week’s Muso Mondays post, we are pointing the spotlight onto an incredible artist who has been faced with some life-changing events but has emerged at the top of his game.
We’d like to introduce you to the Birmingham-based rapper, Downside24 who was met with the devastating news of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This left him fearful of never been able to speak, let alone rap, again.
After having surgery to remove both thyroids and receiving radiotherapy, Downside24 used the motivation generated from his love of music and the support of his friends, to return to doing what he loves most.
And what a way to return. Downside24 has teamed up with Mox for the first time in seven years, to create a brand new single, Been a Minute. Quite aptly, the track focuses on the fact that they are still going strong, despite what life has thrown at them. The single also features fellow artist, Aktual, and delivers a progressive and fresh sound to our ears.
Been a Minute has clearly captured audiences, with the music video being premiered on LinkUp TV and receiving praise from GrmDaily.

As well as prooving to everyone that’s he’s back and means business, Downside24’s clothing brand also looks to be a big success. Is there nothing this man can’t do!?
