During a global lockdown, Ido Spak found love online. A love of musical heritage, new cultures, and collaboration. From the new relationships he forged with collaborators as far and wide as Syria or Canada, came his new release The Epidemic Adventures.
The album guides listeners on a global journey through cultural and musical influences. Incorporating the melody and rhythm focus of the Middle East; the passion and erraticism of NY Jazz; and the technical prowess of classical, Ido Spak draws on a life well-travelled for a wholly unique musical experience.
Lead single Epidemic Love Song has a very ‘jazz in the park’ feel. The way warm, mellow trombone weaves over Ido’s delicate keys reminds of that Stang Getz and Chet Baker Medley, the one that starts with Autumn in New York. Smooth like scotch with the same deep, brown tone.
Ido worked with artists from Iran, Syria, Kurdistan, Canada and Germany, with a shared intent of destroying national and political boundaries. Ido draws on his personal experience, being “born in Israel, into war,” and said “my dream as child has always been to bring peace and build bridges.”
Along the way, Ido exposed himself to global musical ideologies which have greatly influenced the project. The new album in particular draws on Kurdish and Jewish folk songs.
An independent artist, Ido is crowdfunding the project offering his previous albums, music lessons, and even live performances to supporters.
